Relationship to Smalley Institute

The

Richard E. Smalley Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology is a Rice University institute whose mission is to foster nanotechnology within the university. Its members include all faculty on campus that have active research projects bearing on nanotechnology. CNST activities include facilitation of joint grant writing, oversight of interdepartmental nanotech-related organizations such as the Shared Equipment Authority and CBEN, and outreach activities.

CBEN is a research center that is tightly focused on specific projects. Its funding for those projects comes from the National Science Foundation, Rice University, and various industrial partners. CBEN distributes its research funds to approximately twenty-five faculty on campus to support their CBEN-related research activities.
